Kevin's Story

kevinturnerfoundation pic2Kevin Turner, star fullback for the Alabama Crimson Tide, played eight seasons in the NFL for the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles throughout the 1990s.

In May 2010, Kevin was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease. Kevin is now involved in research that links chronic traumatic encephalopathy ("CTE" i.e. repeated brain trauma) in athletes to ALS, and through The Kevin Turner Foundation, he is raising awareness about these issues.

ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

The Kevin Turner Foundation has been created to:
1) bring attention to ALS and the need for a cure
2) raise awareness about the seriousness of braintrauma in athletes at every level of competition and its possible connection to ALS
3) and to financially support efforts to study, treat, prevent and ultimately cure this disease.

Board of Directors

Kevin Turner, star fullback for the Alabama Crimson Tide, played eight seasons in the NFL for the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles throughout the 1990s.

Kevin also enjoys spending time with his three children.

Craig Sanderson, a 4 year letterman in football at UA while graduating with a degree in Business, was KT's roommate and best friend from the time they hit campus. He is currently in medical device sales and has been married to Julie for 19 years with three beautiful children. Craig's relationship with Kevin was recently documented in the American Man movie filmed by Jon Frankel of HBO Real Sports. After Kevin's diagnosis, Craig and his family took Kevin in to live with them for a time. Craig still helps Kevin with everything from daily tasks to Board Meetings.

Tamara Alan, is an entertainment attorney whose record label produced the Ty Herndon video for the song "Journey On" featuring Kevin and 2 of his children. Suggesting that the proceeds from the video should go to ALS research through Kevin's foundation, of course, pre-supposed Kevin had one. That was rectified in November 2010 with the formation of The Kevin Turner Foundation. Since early 2012, Tamara has moved into full time responsibilities as The Foundation's Executive Director, while also being a wife and mother of two. Incidentally, Tamara was a Bama Belle the year Kevin and Craig were football recruits at Alabama.
